Why Insurance Companies Suck – Worst Drivers Survey

131 320x240 driving Why Insurance Companies Suck Worst Drivers Survey In a recent desperate attempt to generate web traffic an insurance company, that will remain nameless, has released a list ranking states by best and worst drivers. Did this insurance company spend hundreds of thousands of dollars doing actual testing of Millions of licensed motorists? Did they gather a representative sampling of the population and take them for three days of written, oral and real world skills testing? Nope, they had 5000 people take written tests.

Yep, that’s right, 5000 of the over 200,000,000 licensed drivers in this country is apparently a representative sample to an insurance company. A company whose very ember of existence is based on statistical data. An industry who decides what to charge you based on the huge number crunching abilities they poses.

Now obviously, things like this are publicity stunts to generate traffic. Every time one of these surveys is released, it gets coverage all over the web, local news, everywhere. From a marketing stand point its brilliant. You throw together a completely craptastic survey and you get lots of marketing mileage from it. This is why the aforementioned insurance company will go unnamed on this site. I will not buy into their propaganda machine.

If they feel it is OK to generalize all of our driving abilities based on a written test given to less than one quarter of one tenth of a percent of the entire driving population in the US, I shudder to think how they are calculating their customers’ insurance premiums. To their customers, good luck. It sounds like you will need it.

Is that list a ranking from best to worst (probably), or the other way around?

  2. You are correct sir, the list is from best(on top) to worst(on the bottom). There are 51, because the still unnamed insurance company decided that Washington DC is a state.
