Shoe guy, rally driver, and professional goofball, Ken Block released a new gymkhana video today. The video was filmed in San Pedro at the Los Angeles Port and features the new hatchback styled Subaru Sti. The new video, obviously made with a higher budget than the previous one he released, includes a bunch of slow motion shots, fluorescent bulb smashing, as well as a paintball gun manned by skateboarding MTV celeb, Rob Dyrdek.
Does it top his first video? Well, yes and no. There were certainly a number of cool shots and interesting demonstrations of precision driving. But what was with the fluorescent bulb slo mo’s, balloon smashing, and paintball gun scene? They were complete non sequiturs to the driving. And what was with the 1.5 minutes worth of DC shoe advertising before the car action began? Annoying! Overall, I thought it was sweet. But since the advertising was prioritized over the driving, I could only enjoy it in a ‘superbowl advertisement’ sort of way and not so much in a ‘hard-core car guy’ way.
