Since a mere 30% of the Earth is dry land, it would make sense that a company working on total transportation domination would choose to expand its efforts onto the open seas. Audi, one of the world’s premier car builders, has teamed up with the Dana Point Yacht Club to host a charity regatta benefitting the Ocean Institute in Orange County, California.
Audi is the title sponsor of the MedCup, which is the premier regatta racing series in the world, pitting 52’ boats and international crews against each other in fierce competition. The Audi Cup Dana Point Charity Regatta will feature J24 class sailboats, which while not as big or advanced as the MedCup yachts, are all identical leading to even closer and more exciting racing. The race is part of the annual Richard Henry Dana Charity Regatta held September 10th-13th in Dana Point, California.
With almost 30 years of history, The Ocean Institute educates 350,000 visitors annually about maritime history and conservation. 110,000 of those visitors are K-12 students who participate in 61 award-winning immersion style programs that not only educate but inspire a lifelong stewardship of our oceans.
Audi Cup Racing takes place on Saturday September 12th and Sunday the 13th. Other events include pancake breakfasts, yacht tours and the Toshiba Tall Ship Festival. So load up the little pirates in the Avant and cruise on down, if it’s just you and your first mate, drive the Rrrrrrrrrr8. Sorry, but how often do I get to make pirate jokes?
